The history-making and changing actress Diahann Carroll has passed away! She was the first Black actress to star in a non-servant role in a TV series. She played the ground-breaking role of Julia Baker in the show "Julia." While Ethel Waters was the first African-American woman to star in her own show, Beulah, Diahann's role changed the narrative that black women were "the help!" She was 84. Her daughter told The Associated Press that Diahann died today October 4) in Los Angeles of cancer. During her lengthy career, she won a Tony Award for the musical “No Strings” and an Academy Award nomination for best actress for “Claudine,” according to EastTexasMatters.com.

“Diahann Carroll walked this earth for 84 years and broke ground with every footstep. An icon. One of the all-time greats. She blazed trails through dense forests and elegantly left diamonds along the path for the rest of us to follow. Extraordinary life. Thank you, Ms. Carroll.”
