This horrible time in history will be talked about for years to come. The January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S Capitol, is still fresh on the minds of many Americans, as arrests are still being made and the people involved are still facing their days in court. Like many Americans, I watched in disbelief at what I was seeing, but the number of people involved that were from Western New York is even more unbelievable to me.

Now, I know there are plenty of Donald Trump supporters in New York State, but it was shocking to me to hear about the number of them that made it to Washington. According to spectrumlocalnews.com, Erie County ranks second for the number of people involved in the U.S Capitol riots. There were nearly 500 people charged across the country so far for being involved in the violence, of those five hundred people six of them are from Erie County, and one in Western New York.

New York State as a whole, is not doing very well in my opinion, coming in fourth place with 37 people, only falling behind Florida, Texas, and Pennsylvania. I'm sure this ongoing investigation will probably bring up more people on charges, but I thought these current numbers were pretty surprising.

I know that there are people that will try to downplay the violence that took place on that day, I just think anyone that was involved should be held accountable People have lost their lives as a result of what happened, and that should not be taken lightly.
