A cake meant to protest female circumcision and celebrate World Art Day in Sweden has to be one of the most offensive things I've ever seen. This is UNBELIEVABLE!  Let me briefly explain.

(According to Wikipedia and The Root)

  • Clitoridectomy - The surgical removal of the Clitoris.  It's often used in certain African Tribes to discourage masturbation.
  • Sarah "Saartjie" Baartman (she's also referred to as "The Hottentot Venus") - an enslaved African woman who was exploited and put on display throughout Europe for the purposes of entertainment because of her exceptional protruding butt and uncommonly long labia.  Sarah Baartman was also exhibited in London after slavery was abolished in 1807.  She was later sold to a man in France and was the subject of many demeaning "Scientific Paintings".  Sarah Baartman died in 1815 and her genital and brain were preserved and put on display at the Musée de l'Homme in Paris until 1997 when Nelson Mandela arranged for the reamins be sent back to South Africa.

  • "World Art Day" - An art exhibit
  • Ok...so here's the story.  One of the art exhibits at "World Art Day" was a cake created to symbolize "The Hottentot Venus" (Sarah "Saartjie" Baartman") as well as serve as a representation of the Clitoridectomy surgical procedure.  Lena Adelshon Liljeroth, the Swedish Minister Of Culture was invited to open the "World Art Day" festivities.

The video below shows how this art exhibit was celebrated and recognized.  WARNING:  It's EXPLICIT, RACIST and may be troubling to you.
