POLL: Was Man Justified in Dog Hanging Incident in Jamestown?
The Poll Question within itself may be extremely offensive to many and I apologize in advance of you submitting your angry response. I felt the question appropriate, based upon the Suspect, Robert Overton's, admitted reasoning for hanging his dog.
In an interview with WGRZ, Robert Overton, arrested yesterday after turning himself in for hanging a dog in Jamestown, NY. Overton makes a statement saying this:
WHEN YOU'RE DEALING WITH THAT SPUR OF THE MOMENT THING, YOU'RE DEALING WITH LIFE OR DEATH. ALRIGHT? IT WAS ABOUT ME & MY KIDS AND THAT DOG...AND I CHOSE MY KIDS...KNOWING THAT I LOVE ANIMALS. IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT I DID WHJAT A PARENT WOULD DO.
The interviewer goes on to ask Overton why the dog didn't get a proper burial...and here's Overton's seemingly remorseful response:
(shaking his head remorsefully) THE DOG DESERVED A PROPER BURIAL, CAUSE I LOVED THAT DOG, CAUSE IT WAS PART OF MY FAMILY, BUT IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT, I DID WHAT I HAD TO DO AS A PARENT.
Overton then looks directly into the camera and appeals to the general public seemingly asking for understanding in that would never intentionally do what he did "on purpose" and asks anyone with kids to understand that your kids come 1st and that if you have a family pet and that pet becomes aggressive with your kids, you're going to protect your kids (paraphrasing what he shared with WGRZ)
