The Internet is still broken over the release of what may be Kanye West's most controversial work yet: the semi-erotic, super NSFW video for "Famous," which features a number of prominent (wax? CGI? real? imagined?) figures laying nude in a bed alongside the artist. Starring doppelgangers for everyone from Donald Trump to Amber Rose to Taylor Swift (awkward...), the clip has caused quite a stir since its debut during a TIDAL live stream at the L.A. Forum on Friday June 24.

Speaking with Vanity Fair roughly 48 hours ahead of its premiere, West dropped some insights — though most of it somewhat vague — on the method behind his creative madness.

"It’s not in support or anti any of [the people in the video]," West shared of the clip with regard to the individuals portrayed, who include Bill Cosby and Chris Brown. "It’s a comment on fame... We were very careful with shots that had [something] sexual to take them out."

While we're not exactly sure what that specific commentary is meant to be, the video definitely strains to make some sort of statement with its depiction of an undressed, slumbering Taylor Swift — the pop star which West coincidentally shares a heap of beef with, and who he references on the track with a particularly raunchy lyric.

Also "appearing" in the video is West's wife, Kim Kardashian, who he said he appreciates for letting him simply be himself with his art: "[I say] a lot of lines other wives would not allow a husband to say, but my wife also puts up photos that other husbands wouldn't let them put up. One of the keys to happiness in our marriage is we’re allowed to be ourselves."

According to the rapper, the video took three months to film and he worked with a number of collaborators before finally finding his footing. He also revealed that the clip was only previewed to a handful of celebrity friends before its release.

"Guess what the response is when I show it to them? They want to be in the bed," he added.

Something tells us Swift would gladly switch places with a different star.
