Jay Z has gained plenty of accolades in his career, but this one has got to be one of the best.

The Associated Press reports that the Brooklyn boy is in the running for the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame. Jay is nominated alongside the likes of Madonna, Babyface, Kool & the Gang, Cat Stevens, Sly Stone, Chicago, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne, David Gates, and the duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Jigga Man is reportedly leading the pack of nominees, tying with Madonna in popularity. If Jay were to be accepted, he would be the first rapper in the music organization's history to be inducted into the hall.

In order for an artist, performing or non-performing, to be eligible for the Hall of Fame, they have to have been writing hit songs for at least 20 years. And with Jay's debut album, Reasonable Doubt, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, HOV has definitely earned his keep in the music industry.

Since breaking into the rap world, Jay has gone on to be a pop star, fashion trendsetter and business mogul. Jay's newest feat includes venturing into the TV and film world. Jay's Tidal is working on a TV series around criminal justice victim Kalief Browder and a biopic for comedian Richard Pryor.

Voting for three non-performing songwriters and two performing songwriters will remain open until Dec. 16. The new songwriters will be inducted on June 15, 2017.
