Health Insurers Should Cover The Cost Of COVID-19 Testing

According to WIVB, the CEO's of BlueCross BlueShield, Univera Healthcare and Independent health is covering the cost of COVID-19 testing for their members. County officials are calling on each to change their decision and make testing available to all.

According to WIVB, Mayor Byron Brown demanded testing to be covered with no exceptions in a recent letter sent to the health insurance companies.

Testing is one of the few weapons have in the fight against this global pandemic.

Said Mayor Brown.

The letter stated in part, " I disagree with the reason you provided the media, for the decision to no longer cover these tests". Mark Polancarz and Dr. Gale Burstien say this policy change will hurt the communities with low income and negatively affect families, that don't have other means of paying for testing.

In my opinion, COVID-19 testing should be covered, there are many families that struggle in today's economy, with job layoffs, unemployment, and the cost of food on the rise. Major insurance companies should be able to come up with a plan to help during this global pandemic.
