On a beautiful Friday afternoon (May 31), the Roots were honored with a special mural behind the World Communications Charter School in South Philadelphia. The painting was dedicated to the hip-hop band for representing the City of Brotherly Love for over two decades.

Designed by students of Amber Art & Design, the beautiful mural -- called "Legendary" -- features the likenesses of the band members, including Black Thought and Questlove, amid images of cassette tapes and boom boxes.

Questlove went on Instagram to thanked the city of Philadelphia and its citizens for their outpouring of support. His note reads:

Wow Philly. Thank You. 21 years ago this Saturday two high school graduates tried their luck at *busking* on 5th & South Street to make "date money" and cop some Girbauds. 21 years & 10 blocks later we return to the scen---nope--the dream of the crime. Incredible Journey. Wouldn't change a thing."

At the event, Black Thought told the media he was humbled by the mural dedication. "It hits close to home for me that this is in South Philly," he said, with Questlove adding, "This will be here long after I'm not."

On June 1, the Roots will hold their annual Roots Picnic music festival. Among the acts set to perform at the event are Naughty by Nature, Solange, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Robert Glasper, Trinidad Jame$, Gary Clark, Jr. and more.
