The Walt Disney Company has made plans to close 20% of its Disney Store locations across North America.

The company operates 300 stores nationwide, and the decision to close 20% of them has been made as the pandemic has pushed more consumers to avoid in-person shopping and to strictly shop online.

“We now plan to create a more flexible, interconnected ecommerce experience that gives consumers easy access to unique, high-quality products across all our franchises,” Stephanie Young, Disney’s president of consumer products, games and publishing, said in a statement.

Victoria's Secret Closing An Additional 30 to 50 More Stores

According to CNN, the retailer is planning to close 30 to 50 more stores this year. The closures come following the reduction in 2020, in which 241 locations were closed in the U.S. and Canada.

Over the next six months, we will continue to work toward the separation of the two businesses, proceeding down a dual track to prepare for either a spin-off or a sale," the company said in a statement.

There's no word if the location in New Hartford or Syracuse will be closing, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. There's been several closures in Sangertown Square, including JCPenney and H&MMacy's will be closing their doors in the next few weeks.
