Sad News Shared By The Buffalo Zoo
Yesterday the Buffalo Zoo shared some very sad news on their Facebook page.
Yesterday the Buffalo Zoo posted that their 19-year-old African lion Shona was humanely euthanized after issues with her kidneys and liver could no longer be treated medically.
Shona had been at the Buffalo Zoo for around 18 years. She was born at the Como Park Zoo in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and was transferred to the Buffalo Zoo along with her sister Acacia and brother Tsavo when they were around 1 year old.
I was just at the Buffalo Zoo a couple of weeks ago for their annual Boo Bash at the Zoo and had a chance to see Shona in her habitat. She was an amazing animal, so powerful and graceful and I know over the past 18 years plenty of people across Western New York had a chance to see her in her glory.
Shona's sister Acacia passed away earlier this year as well.

The Buffalo Zoo is asking everyone in Western New York to share any of the photos they have taken with Shona over the past 18 years on the Zoo's Facebook page. A lot of people have already posted photos and videos. You can check them out in the thread in the above post.
The Buffalo Zoo has transitioned to its Winter hours. They will now be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 am until 4 pm. The Buffalo Zoo will be open on certain weekdays during the Wintertime and that includes November 11, 2021, which is Veteran’s Day, and then December 20 thru, December 30, 2021, which is the Western New York School holiday break weeks.
