The Empire State routinely ranks at or near the top of many categories when you compare New York to other states in America. This, of course, should be expected since this is one of the best states in the Union, with some of the best cities and towns, which are filled with some of the best America has to offer.

Say what you want about other states, but New York is called the Empire State for a reason: amazing architecture, awesome people, great food, and the Buffalo Bills. What more could you ask for?

Well, if you are looking for somewhere to move and make your home, then there is a whole lot more you can ask for. LawnStarter considered this and, after measuring several categories, including health and safety, education, and the environment, they were able to rank the 500 largest cities in America by the places with the best and worst quality of life.

What New York City Offers The Best Quality of Life?

After reviewing the data that LawnStarter made available in thier latest survey, the info they collected about New York is quite interesting.

When looking over the cities from New York that made the list, there are a few surprises and a few things that aren't surprising:

  • New Rochelle is ranked as the city with the best quality of life in New York State, gaining high marks in safety and economic stability.
  • Syracuse ranked as the worst city in New York in terms of quality of life, placing in the bottom half of nearly every category.

How did the big cities in New York rank? Well, Buffalo and Rochester didn't fare much better than Syracuse. New York City and Yonkers both ranked within the top 200, but got some low marks in several areas as well.

The study itself is pretty interesting; you can read the entire Lawnstarter report here.
