The 2022 NHL Draft is about to take place in Montreal. The first round will take place on Thursday night, while the rest of the draft will be held on Friday.

The hours before the NHL Draft is routinely a busy time for trades across the NHL and the Buffalo Sabres should be involved heavily in talks with teams; since they hold three first round picks and plenty of salary cap room.

It appeared the Sabres had a trade in the works with the Ottawa Senators, but the trade did not get finalized due to the player not electing to waive his no-trade clause.

Senators goaltender Matt Murray did not agree to a trade that would have sent him to the Sabres on Thursday. Murray has a 10-team no-trade list and Buffalo was on it. He decided to keep it that way, according to Elliotte Friedman.

The news got much worse for Sabres fans, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

In the proposed deal, that only needed Murray's approval, the Senators would have retained some of Murray's salary ($6.25 cap hit) and Buffalo would have went from the 16th pick to the 7th pick in the first round...

Media members are reacting to the trade that would have been phenomenal for the Sabres.

Murray isn't Ottawa's number one goalie and they desperately wanted to be rid of his contract, with two years remaining. This was a great job by Adams, but you can't control a player who decides to stick with his no-trade list.

That news hurts.
