Something that seems to have taken years to happen has finally happened. The election is over. Now, nationwide, several votes still need to be counted; the vast majority of decisions have been made, and winners have been declared. We know this far too well here in the Empire State, as nearly 8 million New Yorkers came out to vote for their favorite candidate. Whether we like it or not, New Yorkers love politics for better or for worse.

Even those who claim to dislike politics always find a way to express their political opinions to the masses.

Of course, this is ultimately good for New York and the nation. Citizen participation is one of the primary requirements for our representative democracy to work.

Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.
–Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Whether you realize it or not, you see this demonstrated daily throughout the year. From letters to the editors and bumper stickers to lawn signs, residents of the Empire State will make sure you know how they feel about a particular topic or political candidate.

We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate
-Thomas Jefferson

This was shown more than ever this year with the 2024 election season. It has been a busy political season with battles up and down the nation, like the presidential battle between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and contests for the City of Buffalo School Board.

Just look at any lawn, and you will see lots of political signs. I'm a politics junky, and I can tell you I haven't seen so many in a very long time.

But New York, I am here to tell you that now that the elections are over, it's time to clean up your lawn signs.

Year after year, you can drive around town and still see signs up for weeks, even months, after an election.

They just don't age well and actually look like litter once election season ends. I drove around my neighborhood this morning and still saw signs for Biden 2020, Allen-Diggs Signs, Trump 2016, and even a couple Write Down Byron Brown signs.

Please join me and your neighbors in making lawns great again, and take down those lawn signs!

Presidents Of The United States From The Great State Of New York

New York is called the Empire State for many reasons, one of which is our rich political history and the fact that we have had at least five Presidents of the United States.
