Bills Cornerback Darius Slay Increases NFL Drama
Over the last few weeks, the Buffalo Bills have had a hard time dealing with injuries on the defense. If you take a look at the Bills' injury report since the beginning of December, you would see a lot of key players missing from the active roster.
To help bolster the roster, like many other teams, the Bills often look to free agency and the league waiver wire to be able to add a player to the roster to help the team. That's exactly what happened on December 3rd when the Bills claimed Big Play Darius Slay from waivers, who had recently been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Unfortunately for the Bills, Slay refused to play for Buffalo, saying that it's too cold in Buffalo and he would rather retire. In the kerfuffle, the Bills also lost Ja’Marcus Ingram to Houston, as the Bills had to release Ingram (with hopes of re-adding him to the practice squad).
The Drama With Darius Slay and the Bills Increases
Now, if that wasn't enough drama for you, things between Slay and the Bills are heating up again after Slay found a way to make the front page of league-related news during the NFL Wild Card Weekend.
Because Buffalo claimed Slay from waivers, the Bills have the rights to have him play in the league. However, since he's flat-out refused to report to Buffalo to play for the Bills, he's not eligible to play or work with any other teams in the NFL. Multiple outlets have speculated that Slay was hoping that Philadelphia would sign him so he could return to the team he won Super Bowl LIX with.
However, herein lies the problem: Slay made an appearance on the sidelines for the Philadelphia Eagles as they lost to the San Francisco 49ers, and he's still a member of the Buffalo Bills.
This may be the first time that a player for one team who won their playoff game skipped being with his team to be on the sideline of another team whose season is over.
There's one bright light to all of this: Slay can now stay home with the rest of the Eagles for the remainder of the offseason.
