The current record is $476 million dollars and was set in April 2023 with the Mega Millions. New York City resident Johnnie Taylor matched all 5 numbers and the Megaball to claim the grand prize.

The winning Mega Millions numbers for the drawing were 23-27-41-48-51, with Mega Ball 22.

He opted to take the cash value of the annuitized prize which was a lump sum payment of $157,288,402 after required state and federal withholding.
