Erie County Sheriff’s Mounted Police Holding Food Drive

This Sunday the Erie County Sheriff's Mounted Reserve Unit will be holding their semi-annual food drive.

This Sunday, December 10th the Sheriff's Mounted Reserve Unit and their horses will be in front of the Market in the Square at the Southgate Plaza, for their food drive called, “Mounted for Meals”.

The unit will be collecting perishable and non-perishable food items as well as cash donations. The donations collected with be given to The Response to Love Center.

Sister Johnice, from The Response to Love Center will also be there to collect the donations.

The Response to Love Center's mission is to improve the lives across our community by first addressing basic human needs. During this holiday season and with tough economic times for so many, the need is greater than ever.

Over the years the Mounted Police have raised thousands of dollars and collected tons of food to help the center.

WHO ARE THE ERIE COUNTY MOUNTED POLICE?

The mounted police division was formed in 1942 and it is made up of 9 part-time Reserve Deputies and 20 horses. The unit patrols area events including Highmark Stadium for Bills games, They also patrol the Erie County Parks, special events at Convention Center, and the Allentown Arts Festival.

WHAT IS THE RESPONSE TO LOVE CENTER?

The Response To Love Center first opened in 1985 after St. Adalbert’s parish school was closed. Since then the center has focused on the holistic treatment of poverty by showing loving care to the economically deprived and all those in need.
