If you have to be outside, here are some tips to stay safe when it is so cold outside.

WEAR WARM CLOTHES AND LAYER THEM

If you have to be outside, the less skin exposed the better. Make sure to have hats, facemasks, gloves, and other warm protective gear. You also want to layer them in case you do get warm while working outside. Taking off the warm clothes layer by layer will allow you to stay warm and easily put on more clothes if needed.

KEEP EXTRA GEAR IN YOUR VEHICLE

You want to make sure that if something happens and you get stuck you won't freeze in your vehicle. You should have extra clothes, non-perishable food, and drinks, and also make sure you have a jack or roadside service to change a tire if you need them.

KNOW THE SIGNS OF FROSTBITE AND HYPERTHERMIA

Knowing the signs of someone in distress could save a life. Some symptoms of frostbite include; white or grey color skin, skin that is firm or waxy, and numbness in body parts. Some symptoms of hyperthermia include; shivering, confusion, numbness, and slurred speech.

The best way to stay safe is to stay indoors, but if you can't make sure you are prepared for these bitter cold temperatures.
