Major Changes Coming To Concealed Weapon Laws In New York

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement that some changes are coming to the concealed weapons laws in the state.

The governor made the announcement on Twitter and said that the changes will begin tomorrow across the state.

The new law will now make it illegal to carry concealed weapons in public locations like playgrounds, zoos, churches, all government buildings, schools, polling sites, and Times Square, among other public spaces.

The new changes come after the Supreme Court struck down New York's concealed weapon law earlier this year.

“In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down New York’s century-old concealed carry law, we took swift and thoughtful action to keep New Yorkers safe,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. “I refuse to surrender my right as governor to protect New Yorkers from gun violence or any other form of harm. In New York state, we will continue leading the way forward and implementing common sense gun safety legislation.”

Earlier this year New York enacted new laws that affect gun ownership across the state. They included raising the minimum age for owning a gun and only professional police forces could buy and own body armor.
