Buffalo Businesses Team Up To Stuff The Bus With School Supplies
It's hard to believe that summer is nearly over, and it's almost time for everyone to come in from the warm weather to prepare for the fall. With the end of summer comes something else that many adults are looking forward to while crowds of kids are dreading: back to school.
While some schools in the region will start as early as next week, most in Western New York will start right after Labor Day. With school starting, back-to-school shopping has been well underway at big box stores and local mom-and-pop shops.
With the hustle and bustle of making sure everyone has all of the supplies they need to be ready for school, it's easy to lose track of how expensive school shopping has become in 2024. Inflation has risen at record numbers over the last few years, driving the cost of pens, pencils, notebooks, and backpacks to levels that no one has ever seen before.
To help make things a tad bit easier for Buffalonians who need a little extra help making sure schoolchildren have all the supplies they need, several Buffalo area businesses have teamed up to stuff a bus full of school supplies.
Townsquare Media of Buffalo, the owners of local radio stations WBUF, WBLK, WTSS, and WYRK, teamed up with Lake Effect Furniture and Fisher Bus Service to collect school supplies during August. People in the Buffalo area were asked to drop off school supplies that would then be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Western New York to ensure families around the region could get supplies for the new school year.
Buffalonians really went above and beyond, dropping off more than 10,000 pieces of school supplies over three weeks. Students all over Western New York will now benefit from the generosity of the people of Buffalo, who gave countless numbers of pens, pencils, crayons, paper, notebooks, backpacks, dry-erase markers, folders, glue & glue sticks, colored pencils, erasers, composition notebooks, scissors, kids' headphones, and pencil boxes.
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, representatives from Townsquare Media, Lake Effect Furniture, Fisher Bus Service, and The Boys & Girls Club of Western New York gathered together to literally stuff a school bus and drop those supplies at the 12 different member Boys and Girls Clubs in Western New York.
