As people all over the region know, the City of Buffalo, specifically Western New York, is a great place to visit. Not only do we have top-notch sports teams like the Bills and Bandits (not you, Sabres), but we are also known for having great architecture, one of the greatest wonders of the world, and, of course, amazing food. People come from far and wide to visit the 716, and they get here in all sorts of ways.

Being right on the golden horseshoe, people can drive here along I-90 and fly into Buffalo International Airport, and very soon, given our position on the Great Lakes, they will have another way to get here.

Are Luxury Cruises Coming To Western New York?

Governor Hochul made a bold claim just about a year and a half ago that Buffalo would be a major cruising destination.

Given that Buffalo sits right on the mouth of the Niagara River, on the eastern end of Lake Erie, that seems like an odd concept until you understand that plans to develop a cruise ship network that would navigate the Great Lakes.

From there, a study went underway to determine how likely it could be to have cruise ships running about the Great Lakes, and now, according to WGRZ-TV, it's more than possible and very likely to happen within the next two years.

The Port of Buffalo is likely to become the location of a cruise terminal for Great Lakes Cruises, which would traverse one of the largest freshwater bodies in the world. Cruise ships that can seat up to 200 passengers per voyage are in the works, and Visit Buffalo Niagara thinks it's a great idea.

Would you cruise through the Great Lakes, and if yes, what would be your first stop?
