
This Buffalo Landmark Celebrates Its 37th Birthday
Buffalo and Western New York are filled with architectural gems. It's one of our claims to fame in the 716, and we wear it as a badge of pride. All over the Buffalo area, you will easily find all types of beautifully historic homes, dynamic buildings, world-class parks, and amazing stadiums.
This is just another reminder of why Buffalo is not only the best New York City; it's also the best-planned city in America.
While we have made some pretty bad mistakes over the years, one thing we did right was build a world-class baseball stadium in the city's center.
This Buffalo Landmark Celebrates Its 37th Birthday
The Downtown Buffalo Sports Complex, which opened in 1988 and is located on 13 acres, was designed to replace the aging War Memorial Stadium and provide a new home for the Buffalo Bisons.
While the stadium, which many names have known over the years:
- 1988 - Pilot Field
- 1995 - North AmeriCare Park
- 1999 - Dunn Tire Park
- 2008 - Coca-Cola Field
- 2018 - Sahlen Field
We have to make sure we give some birthday love to one of the best ballparks in the nation.
Happy Birthday To Sahlen Field
Construction on the downtown Baseball Stadium started in 1986 and took under two years to complete. The stadium officially opened on April 14, 1988, 37 years ago.
Even after nearly 4 decades, Sahlen Field continues to serve thousands of Western New Yorkers every year and still holds the MiLB All-Time Minor League Baseball Attendance Record of 1,240,951 fans in a season.
