Historic Downtown Pizzeria Is Now Back Open
There was once a time in downtown Buffalo where you had all sorts of great options to grab something to eat. Not only were there great restaurants all over the place, we had a grocery store sold great sandwiches, and an entire food court with several spots where you could grab a bite. However, those days are long gone and, while there are a few places left, your options for food have been limited quite a bit.
One of the most popular places to get some food while you were downtown was the Main Place Mall. Since the downtown pedestrian focused mall shuttered its doors, it displaced thousands of Buffalonains looking for food and it also displaced one historic pizzeria.
Gino & Joe’s Famous NY Pizza, which served downtown pizza lovers in downtown Buffalo for 4 decades was one of the last holdouts in the mall, but nothing lasts forever and they shut their doors this past spring. That closure, which made an impact for those of us who love a good slice for lunch, didn’t last for long as plans were in the works for the pizzeria to move just one block north into the historic Brisbane Building.
Now, after five long months of waiting, Gino & Joe’s pizza is back open at the corner of Main Street and Lafayette Square.
Gino & Joes Downtown Buffalo Pizzeria Is Back Open
Now folks who are looking forward to making their way through downtown Buffalo, walking fast, to get a great slice or calzone can visit the pizzeria that has plenty of space for you to sit and lots of staff to serve you if you want to grab something to go.
The pizzeria held its grand opening on Monday, September 15, 2025, and the fronts of the store boasts their desire to serve Buffalo for another 40 years.
Downtown has been suffering for the last few years, so hopefully this will help spur some additional development in the city’s central business district.
