9 Fun Things For Kids To Do In A Western New York Winter (Other Than Screens)
Keeping kids busy isn't always easy to do. Keeping them busy without just putting them in front of a screen in the winter is even harder. But here are some ideas to give them something to do when it's cold out in Western New York.
We weren't allowed to be bored
When we were growing up, we didn't have screens like kids today do. I mean, I'm not saying we didn't have TV. We did have TV, but there was only one in the house, and it didn't always have a remote. We couldn't just hang out all day and watch TV. Even if we could, we didn't have streaming like they do now. If we wanted to watch something, we had to check the TV Guide to see when it was coming on and then wait for it to happen.
But we still weren't allowed to be bored when we were kids. That was a bad word in our house. If we told my mom and dad that we were bored, their response was always, "If you're that bored, I'll find you something to do." And for the people who didn't have parents like this, the thing they found for us to do was normally work. It wasn't fun, so we just stopped saying it. We found things to do.
It's hard to not be on screens all day
When winter hits in Western New York, it's hard to NOT be on a screen all day. A lot of adults struggle to not stay glued to their screens too. So it's not the kids' fault. But if you can help guide them to something healthier to do, they might just have fun. Here are some ideas to get you started:
