The month of June has been very strange in terms of weather around New York State. We have seen a variety of temperature ranges and very dry weather and, most recently, smoke! What has that done for the strawberry crops?

The roadside stands are up and the fresh strawberries are available across New York State. For farmers who could keep up with watering and irrigating their plants, the strawberries seem to be pretty plump and juicy. While others are hoping to just break even for their hard work.

We stopped to grab a quart or two of strawberries this past weekend and one of them was an interesting shape. When we opened the strawberries, we found a strawberry that looked like a person! Was it a nose, or other part? Either way, our strawberry had some very unique characteristics.

The summer of 2023 is about to officially begin and the weather looks to be pretty stable. However, the smoke from the devastating and historic wildfires in Canada will be back across New York State this week. Those who have breathing issues will likely feel the effects a little more than others.

The recent rain that moved through the area has made the growing season a little better. Those farms that have corn planted may still be on track to reach that popular growing goal of "knee high by the Fourth of July".
