Pet owners will tell you that they will go above and beyond for their beloved fur babies. There is no limit to what they will spend and no limit to what they would do to protect their animals. There is a new concern for pet parents in New York State this fall.

From Niagara Falls to Albany, people are decorating their homes and businesses for Halloween. Ghosts and goblins are on porches and rooftops and front lawns in every neighborhood and with that are a popular fall flower.

Just like at Christmas, there are some flowers and plants and food that are off limits to pets. Dogs and cats can be harmed or poisoned by Poinsettias. This time of the year, the concern is Mums!

The USA Today reports that:

While potted plants placed in your home or greenery planted outside the home can be a festive part of any holiday season, certain seasonal plants and vegetation can pose a real problem for the animals in our lives. In order to keep our pets safe, it is best to search any plant before you bring it into your home or plant it on your property and keep dogs on a short leash while out for walks.

There are some experts who also warn that the popular fall flower has toxins. ASPCAPro reports that:

Considered mildly toxic to dogs, cats, and horses, mums are by far one of the most popular fall flowers. If consumed, you may see vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, incoordination, and dermatitis in these animals.
