Watch A Movie At One Of WNY’s Most Haunted Locations
The weather will be starting to turn cooler soon. Pumpkin spice things are turning up on menus. It means that spooky season is right around the corner.
Now is the time to make plans for all the fun things you can do to get yourself ready for it.
Sure, you can go out and pick some apples. Maybe take a drive to see all the leaves changing when it's time. But if you really want to get in the mood, how cool would it be to be able to watch a movie at one of Western New York's spookiest locations?
What is Rolling HIlls Asylum?
Rolling Hills Asylum was originally known as a poorhouse or an almshouse. It's a place where people who were orphaned, elderly, handicapped, mentally unstable, morally corrupt, and even criminals went to live and work. According to an official announcement when they were opening, the people who were invited to be there were:
"Habitual drunkards, lunatics (one who by disease, grief or accident lost the use of reason or from old age, sickness or weakness was so weak of mind as to be incapable of governing or managing their affairs), paupers (a person with no means of income), state paupers (one who is blind, lame, old or disabled with no income source) or a vagrant."
As you can imagine, many of these people were without families or had been abandoned by them. They had no money and were cared for by the county. So when they died, there weren't many places for them to go. They would simply be buried there on the property.
It is because of this that many people think the property itself is extremely haunted. You can see more on their story by clicking here. Ghost hunters and lovers of the paranormal flock there to do their own ghost hunts and investigations.
This year, you can watch a movie and do your own hunt right at Rolling Hills Asylum
Does a scary movie in one of Western New York's most haunted venues sound like a good time to you?
They will be showing movies on the property over the next couple of weeks. It's part of the Haunted History Trail of New York State. They highlight ghost tours, tarot card readings, and all kinds of events aimed at lovers of the paranormal. The next movie up is "Hereditary" (September 9 & 10). The next will be "Poltergeist" (October 1).
Tickets are $69 per person and they're available by clicking here. It includes the movie, self-guided tour, all you can eat potato and sweet potato bar, tips on how to investigate, and an overview on the history and haunting of Rolling Hills Asylum.
