John & Mary’s Set To Close
The owners of John and Mary's have decided to call it quits.
In a world where restaurants are having a hard time right now because of staffing issues, increased food costs and more, the closing is a result of the owners decided to retire.
The John & Mary's located at 1819 Abbott Rd, Lackawanna, NY 14218 is set to close on September 10, 2023.
There is a banging banner that is on the outside of the building of John & Mary's that reads:
After over 57 years in business, we are retiring! Thank you to our loyal customers for your support through the years. We will be closing September 10."
Are all of the John & Mary's locations owned by the same people?
Nope, over the years, there have been different owners.
When did John & Mary's first opened their doors?
In 1952 John and Mary Guida opened a sandwich and hot dog stand called “Johnny’s” in a small rented used car building. After a year of hard work and determination, the couple purchased what became the first John & Mary’s location on Harlem Road' ,according to the website for the Hamburg location.
Take a look at some of these prices for the subs when they first opened up the first John and Mary's location. Back in 1952, here were prices of some of their subs.
- Capicola - 50 cents
- Sausage - 60 cents
- Royal - 75 cents
There are locations that are still opened in Cheektowaga, Depew on Transit Road, Getzville on Millersport, Alden on Broadway and Hamburg on Buffalo Street.
