Fugitive On The Run Captured At The Rainbow Bridge By Customs
Border Patrol agents were able to capture a fugitive who had warrants out for felony drug charges on Sunday.
An alleged drug dealer from Pennsylvania with warrants from St. Lawrence County, New York was caught yesterday as he tried to pass from Canada to the United States over the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, NY. The 44-year-old was on his way back to the States when he was stopped by a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent. He was asked to present his Identification (which he did). When it was scanned into the system, they noticed that he had warrants out for his arrest so he was sent to a secondary inspection area. It was there that they were able to identify him and take him into custody.
According to a press release, the man was placed under arrest for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree. They are charged with that when they knowingly sell a controlled substance. It is a class D felony. A class D felony in New York can be punished by at least a year and up to seven years in prison.
“Our CBP officers screen all travelers entering the United States and are committed to keeping our country and our communities safe. Coordinating with our law enforcement partners ensured this fugitive was brought to justice.”- Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone. “
After confirming the warrant and processing the individual, he was turned over to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.
Congratulations to everyone who worked on this to make sure another fugitive has been brought to justice.
