The weather has been weird, but believe me, summer is coming.  Have you planned your vacation trip yet?  Which is the best way to go?

If you're going to be vacationing here in North America, how do you choose to get where you're going?  Are you a flyer?  Or do you prefer the road trip route?

When we were kids, we drove everywhere.  We've done trips to just about everywhere in the United States except for the states in the northwest.  But we've gone all up and down the east coast and right straight through the flyover states.

Perks of driving

I've always thought this was the way to go.  You get to see the landscape.  I know it's crazy to say now, but as a kid, I used to think it was so cool to see the difference in the soil as you move from north to south and it goes from brown to red.

There's nothing better than stopping off at a roadside attraction or a truck stop to get out and stretch your legs after a long drive either.

Driving is cheaper too if you've got a bigger group.  Even with rising gas prices, the more people you have, the more you save. To buy airline tickets for a group of 6 is a lot more than it would cost to fill a tank and head out.

Perks of flying

There are definitely perks to flying too though.  The biggest is the speed that you get there.  To be able to hop on a plane and end up 5 states away just a couple of hours later is a huge advantage.  It extends your vacation because you can spend your time in the place where you want to be.

The question is, "Which is more important, the destination, or the journey?"

What does the rest of the country think?

According to a new study, most Americans would prefer to take their trips in a car.  They said they appreciated being able to see the landscape, listening to music, getting a break from their routine, and just enjoying the feeling of driving as reasons for their preference.

It feels like if you have time to do it, driving is the way to go.  But if you want to just get there to start having fun and don't want to have to leave early to come home, then flying is the answer.
