Real Reason Why Darien Lake Is Called “Buffalo, New York”

You probably have heard people refer to Darien Lake as being “in Buffalo,” but geographically speaking, we know that’s not true. 

However, there is a reason why you will hear celebrities and musicians refer to Darien Lake as being in Buffalo, and one pop star cleared it up Tuesday night at Darien Lake Amphitheater. 

Matchbox Twenty finally were able to perform their show at Darien Lake that many people bought tickets for at least 3 years ago, and they were pretty excited to be back in Buffalo. 

That’s right – Buffalo. 

Rob Thomas, lead singer for Matchbox Twenty, explained why he would spend most of the evening referring to *this* (gestures around the amphitheater) as Buffalo, New York. 

“It kind of feels like we’re at the Buffalo show, and all of our Buffalo friends are here,” Rob Thomas said. “And quite honestly, later on – as this thing starts to roll,” he said. “And every now and then I yell out [expletive], it sounds so much better to say ‘Right on, Buffalo!’ rather than “Right on, Darien Lake Amphitheater!’”

“So let’s all just get on the same page,” Thomas said. 

It makes sense, right? Like sure – Darien Lake is technically in Darien Center, which is about 30 miles away, so it’s clearly not in the city of Buffalo, but I get why artists always refer to Darien Lake as being “Buffalo.”

That may be a big reason why other artists like Luke Bryan, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, and others! But don’t be alarmed – they most likely know the geography behind it, like Rob Thomas does.
