The Buffalo Sabres family lost an icon this past weekend, as legendary play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret passed away at the age of 81.

Jeanneret retired in April of 2022 but had already been scaling back his work load over the last several years.

Sabres fans everywhere posted condolences on social media, along with stories about their favorite calls from RJ, along with personal meeting experiences with him.

Buffalo is less than one month away from the start of training camp but they still are not quite done refiguring the roster, as general manager Kevyn Adams made a move this weekend that makes the blue line a little less cluttered.

The Sabres traded defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2025 fourth round pick.

The move was needed, since the Sabres already have their top six defenseman and a few extra as well.

  1. Rasmus Dahlin
  2. Mattias Samuelsson
  3. Owen Power
  4. Erik Johnson
  5. Connor Clifton
  6. Henri Jokiharju

Extras:

  • Jacob Bryson
  • Riley Stillman
  • Kale Clague

Some fans would still like if Adams added another NHL goaltender, since as of now, the Sabres would once again be heading into the season with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Eric Comrie and Devon Levi as the netminders.

Levi figures to get a majority of the games, after his impressive seven games to close the 2022-2023 season, but either UPL or Comrie must play at least a fair amount this season...which makes some fans nervous.

The Sabres won't have a shortage on scoring, since they have plenty of youthful depth up front. However, they must keep the puck out of their own net better this season if they expect to make the playoffs.
