Alumni Plaza At Key Bank Center Getting Makeover?
We've been to multiple parties in the plaze there. But this year when you come to Sabres (and Bandits) games, Alumni Plaza will look a little different.
Right now, it's a place to remember the Sabres' roots. When arriving at Key Bank Center, one of the first things you might see is Alumni Plaza. You can see from the picture below, the walkway that goes from the parking ramp is adorned with pictures of players from their past.
Also in the plaza is a statue commemorating the Sabres' "French Connection." It was a line of forwards made up of Rick Martin, Gilbert Perrault, and Rene Robert. The name comes from the movie with the same name and the fact that all three were French-Canadians.
Alumni Plaza is also adjacent to RJ Way which was named after Sabres' longtime play-by-play announcer and voice of the Sabres, Rick Jeanneret.
They're all Sabres greats and are honored in Alumni Plaza. But today, it was confirmed that the plaza will be getting a makeover soon. Sabres Chief Operating Officer Pete Guelli confirmed on his X page that the rumors are true...
Immediately people started making guesses about what the changes could be. Would there just be new pictures of the Sabres on the walkway? Would there be a statue of Rick Jeanneret? Will they be putting video boards up so that the pictures and the message can always be changed? Will they be displaying championship banners from the Bandits?
While we can't wait to see what the changes will be, most Sabres fans are just hoping for an end to the playoff drought.
