“I’m Actually Over Qualified”: Westside Gunn Puts His Bid In To Run Def Jam

Buffalo's own Westside Gunn clearly has a genius mind and was able to build Griselda Records brick by brick to be the powerhouse it is today so his tweet, in my opinion, does not sound far off at all.

Last week Westside Gunn sent out a tweet that gained much traction

This tweet not only caught the attention of fans but also other notable celebrities like  Super Producer Timbaland who shared

This idea could be genius @defjam it’s 2020 bout to be 2021 it’s time for new Evolution!!!!!!!! @westsidegunn

Westside has been in talks about retiring from the music business and just maybe running Def Jam Records could be his transition. If you recall, Jay-Z held down the company as the president from 2005 to 2007. And back in February Paul Rosenberg stepped down and since the position has been open.

When Westside Gunn tweeted such a statement my childhood self who seen Dej Jam as the staple and being signed to that record company as the "I made it moment" sad "Yassssss West shoot your shot" but then my current-year-old self said I agree, you are overqualified.

I say this to say I appreciate what Griselda has built and I'm excited about where it is going. Griselda didn't bring New York back, in the words of Conway The Machine, It put Buffalo in the front. Now, I'm not saying this because I root for the home team but because watching this team build collectively and branch off to build individually has been nothing short of amazing.  West in my humble opinion you're doing just fine where you're at, let's make Griselda the new Def Jam.

Early in October Westside Gunn released WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE debut album on Shady Records and it was filled with dope features and fire collaborations with the team.
