
You Can Now Apply For HEAP In New York
Today New York State officially open the application process for HEAP.

HEAP is The Home Energy Assistance Program that can help eligible New Yorkers heat and cool their homes.

If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year to help you pay for heating your home. Eligibility and benefits are based on several different factors including income, household size, the primary heating source, and the presence of a household member who is under age 6, age 60 or older, or permanently disabled.
You may also qualify for HEAP if a member of your household is a United States Citizen or qualified alien, Your household's gross monthly income is at or below the current income guides for your household size in New York State, you receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, you receive Temporary Assistance or you receive Code A Supplemental Security Income.
If you think that you, your household, or someone you know qualifies for HEAP benefits you need to contact your county's HEAP program. You can see who to contact based on your address HERE.
Emergency HEAP benefits will also be available in a couple of months. That program opens up to the public on January 3rd,2023.
In order to qualify for HEAP Emergency benefits, your electricity is necessary for your heating system or thermostat to work and is either shut off or scheduled to be shut off. your electric or natural gas heat is off or scheduled to be shut off, or you are out of fuel, or you have less than a one-quarter tank of fuel oil, kerosene, or propane or have less than a ten-day supply of wood, wood pellets, corn, or other deliverable heat sources.
Again when this program opens up on January 3rd, 2023, you will need to contact your county's HEAP department.
