Health Care Equity Conference Coming To Buffalo, New York
Everyone in our community should strive to have a safe and healthy population. The better educated and cared-for our people are, the better we are in our daily lives.
To help make sure we achieve that goal, a group of healthcare professionals has teamed up with community leaders and facility from the University at Buffalo to host a conference to discuss the successes we've made as a people to better the lives of Western New Yorkers while obtained equity for those who have been historically disenfranchised in our region.

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Buffalo Center for Health Equity will present its seventh annual Igniting Hope Health Equity Conference at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This year's conference is sponsored by the Buffalo Center for Health Equity with support from the University at Buffalo and the Erie County Department of Health Equity.
This year's conference is centered on the theme "Building an Environmentally Just Community" and seeks to engage participants in a variety of topics that impact Western New York.
Throughout the day, the conference will feature a variety of breakout groups and sessions related to climate change and environmental justice. Those sessions include a panel discussion on environmental justice in Buffalo featuring local experts, housing issues, including green construction, regional food systems, environmental policies, maternal health, and more.

Speakers at the conference include Hanaa A. Hamdi, Ph.D., Kizzy Charles-Guzman, Timothy F. Murphy, MD, Rev. George Nicholas, MDiv, and more. All of them will touch on all sorts of topics that are sure to keep people engaged.
This year’s theme of environmental justice clearly connects with social determinants of health like housing, clean air and food access that have an outsized effect on quality and length of life.
