Photos are circulating showing a 14-inch goldfish found in the Niagara River, just downstream from the wastewater treatment plant.

The group, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, posted the image on their Facebook page, serving as a reminder why you shouldn't release live goldfish into the wild, or flush live fish down toilets.

According to their post, "Goldfish can survive year-round in our watershed and can destroy the habitat of native fish. Scientists estimate that tens of millions of Goldfish now live in the Great Lakes. If you cannot keep your pet, please return it to the store instead of flushing or releasing it."
