The New York State Police and local agencies were very busy at the beginning of the month. According to reports, there was a large amount of DWI issues specifically on Super Bowl weekend.

Between February 11th and the 14th, police agencies statewide handed out 919 DWI tickets and more than 26,000 other tickets issued for a variety of violations including distracted driving, speeding and seatbelt violations.

New 10 in Rochester reported that:

New York State Police issued 599 speeding tickets over Super Bowl weekend as part of its Stop DWI campaign that ran from Friday through Monday. Of those tickets, 212 were issued in the Finger Lakes Region. There were also 14 local DWI arrests.

The Syracuse area also had it's share of arrests as well. Auburnpub.com reports that:

In Troop E, which covers Cayuga County and the Finger Lakes region, 14 people were charged with DWI, 212 were ticketed for speeding, and 53 were charged with other offenses, including child seat and seat belt violations.

As we get ready for the summer of 2022 to begin and the concert season to start, police will be watching and patrolling around New York State. The best plan is to have a ride home or have a ride share app on your phone to get home safely!
