Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’ was the first rap song to win the Grammy for Record of the Year. Be it controversial, it was a thought provoking song and pivotal in creating a bridge for conversation about the struggles all ethnicities face in today’s social-political environment. Definitely a Grammy well deserved.

The second history making Grammy Award went to none other than Cardi B. She not only put on a stellar performance but she nabbed the Grammy for best rap album, the first solo woman in history to do so! Cardi’s ‘Invasion of Privacy” album solidified her place as a permanent fixture in rap/hip hop history not only with the Grammy win but the album broke records period. She was the first female solo artist to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in almost 20 years. She was also the first woman in Hip Hop to have three number one songs on the Billboard Charts among other notable achievements. There’s no doubt that this achievement is one that’s well deserved.

Sending a huge congrats to these record breakers and to all the Grammy winning artists this year.
