Can Two Buffalo Teams, The Bills And The Bulls, Make Serious Noise In 2021?

MAC team in Buffalo? The Bulls will go into this new campaign with one of the highest projected win totals in all of college football according to the 2021 ESPN College Football Power Index (9.4 wins expected), which is higher than all but eight teams in the NCAA. Six of those teams are expected to be ranked in the top six to start the new campaign and include names such as Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, a veritable who’s who of the last half-decade or so worth of football.
The question then becomes, will either, both, or neither live up to the preseason hype surrounding the teams and go over the expected win totals?
The Bills start the 2021 betting season with an over/under of 10.5 wins, although you will have to pay a premium (odds of -150) to take them over, with the underpriced at +115 with Betrivers Illinois. That makes sense, because Buffalo went 13-3 last season, and ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak. The Bills won the AFC East by three games over the Miami Dolphins (10-6), who see their total set at 9.5 wins (with the same juice for the over and under as the Bills). The New England Patriots are also set at 9.5 wins.
Remember, teams will play 17 games in the regular season in 2021, so that gives teams another chance to rack up double-digit victories. The AFC East will face the NFC South, which is good for the AFC teams (outside of Tampa Bay, of course), and the AFC South, which might also be fortuitous for bettors taking the over totals for the AFC East teams.
It is conceivable that all three of the AFC East teams listed go over their totals: Miami and New England at 10-7 and the Bills at 11-6, for example.
How about the Bulls? Buffalo finished 5-1 last season in the MAC. The Bulls have an interesting out-of-conference schedule, with games against Wagner and Old Dominion on either side of Nebraska and 2020 darlings Coastal Carolina. Buffalo also plays Ball State, which went 6-1 last year, on the final day of the MAC regular season.
If Buffalo can start 2-2 or 3-1, it should be able to get to double-digit wins on the campaign, which is just above the projected win total from ESPN. With the over/under total for the Bulls set at 8 (-110), I would have to side with the over, just like with the Bills.
Bills and Bulls, Buffalo brothers in arms, both looking like overs on the win totals. It could be a great year in Northern New York.
