Buffalo Sabres Trade For a New Goalie

The Buffalo Sabres had a great start to the 2021-2022 season, with a 5-1-1 record, but have since fallen back in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference Standings.

Buffalo has a very young roster with inexperience, and while they have played better overall than last year's horrendous team, the lack of depth is evident.

The Sabres biggest problem has been at goaltender. 40-year-old veteran Craig Anderson was signed in the offseason but has been hurt the last couple of weeks. Dustin Tokarski and Aaron Dell have split time since Anderson went down, but it's yielded less than desirable results.

General manager Kevyn Adams has reportedly been in the market for a goaltender and it appears a trade happened on Thursday afternoon.

According to both Kevin Weekes and Elliotte Friedman if TSN in Canada, the Sabres have traded for Chicago Blackhawks goaltender, Malcolm Subban.

The Sabres later confirmed it. Chicago will get future considerations.

Subban is the younger brother of New Jersey Devils defenceman, P.K. Subban and a former first-round pick of the Boston Bruins in 2012.

Subban has spent time with the Bruins, Golden Knights and Blackhawks organizations, and currently playing in Rockford in the AHL.

Subban is talented but hasn't quite lived up to the hype of being a first round draft pick. He's shown to be a solid backup, however, and should be an upgrade over Aaron Dell and even Tokarski, who has had his moments this season.

This also shows the Sabres want to keep Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen with the Rochester Americans to continue to play as the number one goalie in the AHL.
