While the Buffalo Bills have had great success lately, the same cannot be said for the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres have not made the playoffs since 2011 and it looks like they won't make it once again in 2022. They currently sit 14 points out of a wild card playoff spot.

The team has played better than a year ago, and certainly more entertaining to watch, but they have had troubles in the defensive zone, and the goaltending has been a disaster for the most part.

The injuries have not helped at all, either. According to the Sabres injury report on Wednesday, seven players are currently dealing with injuries.

Four of those players are goaltenders. Veteran Craig Anderson began the season as the starter, but he's listed as month-to-month with an upper-body injury.

Dustin Tokarski was placed on the COVID-19 list a while back and he's still not ready to return from the virus.

Last night, both Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Malcolm Subban were injured in their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. To add insult to injury, the Sabres lost 6-1.

Luukkonen is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury, while Subban's upper-body injury is more serious, listed as month-to-month.

That means the only goaltender remaining who has played games with the Sabres this season is Aaron Dell, who has been less than stellar in his time as the netminder.

Due to the injuries, the Sabres have recalled Dell from Rochester, and have signed Michael Houser to a one-year contract worth $750,000.

Houser has been playing in both Rochester and with the Sabres ECHL affiliate in Cincinnati. He played in four games with the Sabres last season, posting two wins a save percentage of .901. The 29-year-old goaltender will now have to play in Buffalo, for what figures to be a longer stint with the team than last season.
