NFL Rescinds Fine Against Buffalo’s Joe Andreessen
The Buffalo Bills have been flying high this season with some amazing play on the field. One player, in particular, is also feeling pretty good after he got an update from the NFL that many people think needed to happen.
In case you missed it, Buffalo-born Joe Andreessen was fined $4,421.29 by the league for Unnecessary Roughness after he was accused of using his helmet as part of a tackle. The play that drew the fine from the NFL's Gameday Accountability process was widely criticized by people around the league as a legal tackle and not one for which he should have been penalized. It's worth noting that the officials on the field did not call a penalty for the tackle as well.
Well, after Andreessen filed an appeal, it seems that people from the NFL have heard the outcry and come to their senses, as it's being reported that the fine is being rescinded.
That $4,421.29 being removed will keep a couple of bucks in someone's pockets, not that Buffalo Joe had to actually worry about paying the fine himself as NFL Retired Quarterback and Bills Legend Ryan Fitzpatrick graciously offered to pay the fine on Andreessen's behalf.
According to the NFL Players Association, in 2022, the NFL issued more than 460 fines to players, with more than 250 being reduced or rescinded altogether. That amounts to around 54% of the fines issued by the NFL, which were later reconsidered for some reason.
This puts Andreessen in good company as most fines are not upheld in the league.
