Peek Inside The Historic and Abandoned Vermillion Room Nightclub In Buffalo
Buffalo and Western New York have a long and storied history when it comes to nightlife in the 716. With the 716 having the latest last call in New York State, people have partied the night away for years in Buffalo.
While nightclub culture has died down over the years, those who have memories of partying in town have great thoughts about how good things were in the old days. Looking back at some of our amazing clubs, there were some great ones. Clubs like Club Paradise to Pharaohs, The Pine Grill to the Club Etcetera, Zanzabar, The Colosseum, The Pier, and so many more.
Very few of the clubs of yesterday have survived to today, but there are a handful. However, one historic club that people partied at for years is in a high state of decay, and the building looks like it's collapsing.
The Former Vermillion Room In Buffalo Is In Terrible Condition
Like many folks who grew up in Buffalo, I spent many years having fun inside the sprawling building at 33 E. Ferry Street on the edge of Buffalo's Cold Springs Neighborhood.
The Vermillion Room, which was renamed Wall Street in its later years, was the place where you had to go up to get down and served as a top nightclub in Buffalo. Over the years, the Vermillion Room hosted many parties and stars like the one and only Rick James.
The original owner of the club and the skating rink below, Trunnis Goggins and his family, went out of their way to make sure people in Buffalo had a fun and safe place to party back in the early 1960s. Unfortunately, in the years since Goggins passed, the entire complex had struggled to stay afloat. Susan Ann Goggins, the widow of Trunnis, had continued to operate New Skateland as Kiddie Skateland; however, the complex has been closed since at least 2020.
Take A Look Inside The Abandoned Vermillion Room
I was scrolling through Facebook and came across this reel video posted by Abandoned and Beyond Buffalo, NY. They have a knack for exploring areas around Western and Central New York that are worthy of a look. Since it's been vacant, this isn't the first time we've gotten a peek at New Skateland. However, it seems time is taking its toll on this great place.
If you've spent time here, you know how massive the site is, and it's a shame it's deteriorated. Like many people from Western New York, I have good memories of years spent there. It's one of the first places I partied and DJ'd.
