More than a dozen teens and college students were injured at a block party on Sunday. The incident happened just after midnight on Sunday in Syracuse, according to USA Today. At least 13 people were injured at the event, which was advertised on social media. Police responded to the scene after calls of shots fired. Upon arriving at the block party, they found hundreds of teens and college-aged people. The injuries were caused by shots being fired, stabbings, and vehicles leaving the scene. The city has a gunshot detection system, which showed dozens of rounds being fired, according to Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile.

According to College Simply,

There are 8 colleges in Syracuse and 25 colleges within 50 miles enrolling a total of 109,748 students.

According to USA Today, the victims were mainly teens and young college-aged people. The ages of the injured range from ages of 17 and 25. Thankfully, none are suffering from life-threatening injuries.

There were also multiple minor injuries to people being hit by cars trying to flee the scene. Police describe the investigation as "complex" and ongoing.

In my opinion, it is sad that people can't go to school, church, the mall, the movies, the grocery store, ride public transit, or go to a block party without a likely threat to their life from guns and other violence. Violence in America is a huge problem that we seem to be doing nothing about...I guess this is just who we are.
