Be sure to listen to DJ Hassan's special DJ Shay tribute mix Saturday (8/22) at 10 pm and Sunday (8/23) at 8 pm!! He'll be playing Shay's songs to celebrate his life and legacy!

Stevo Johnson, Founder of Matti Rouse Apparel, who battled the deadly virus himself, told me via text of his passing.

"The City of Buffalo is completely mourning."

We want to send our condolences to DJ Shay's family and loved ones. He was the owner of Buff City Records, the go-to producer for the Black Soprano Family and legendary DJ in the City of Buffalo. He recently produced “Grams in the Water” for Benny, Loveboat Luciano and Rick Hyde. Shay's last message on Facebook spoke about Benny the Butcher:

"Just in case I’m on my death bed Chains ⛓ aka Benny aka The butcher coming nigga is the best rapper in the world ."

Some of Shay's credits as a producer includes:
18 Wheeler - Benny the Butcher ft. Pusha T
Crowns for Kings - Benny the Butcher ft. Black Thought
Walking on Water (EP) - ElCamino
Lucky 13 (album) - Flee Lord
Da Mob - BSF ft. Rick Hyde, Heem and Benny the Butcher

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, DJ Shay hosted a show on WBLK on Saturday nights, according to DJ Hassan. Shay was working and promoting his love for music right up to his passing. So many of Shay's fans, family and supporters are leaving messages of mourning on his Facebook page.

"DJ Shay was the one of most organic musical souls in the city of buffalo, he was Hip Hop to a community of aspiring artist. His talent & ambition will truly be missed." ~ Stevo Johnson, Founder of Matti Rouse Apparel, via text message
