Earlier this week, the Buffalo Planning Board Monday approved a site plan for the next step of redevelopment at the Shoreline Apartments on Niagara Street. But are these new and redevelopments unfairly displacing the poor and disabled?

According to the board, their vote of approval was only for the design specifications of the projects not the relocation of residents. The developer, Norstar, said it is waiting to hear from the New York State Department of Housing and Community Renewal about the relocation plan, according to the Buffalo News. Most of the residents at Shoreline, which is low-income housing, are elderly and and disabled.

As Buffalo takes on more residential development in downtown and other areas, the likelihood that more people will be displaced will increase. Do you think it's fair for the poor to be relocated for the greater good of the city?
