Imagine waking up in the middle of the night after hearing splashing coming from right outside your window.

The pool, you think, even though you’re half asleep.

You try to ignore the splashing because it’s 2:30 in the morning and you would rather sleep, but it is persistent.

Finally, you get out of bed, and you go to the pool, thinking you’ll just silence your paranoia.

Wrong.

Come to find out, there is something in your pool, and it belongs to your neighbor.

A woman from Western New York woke up at 2:30 in the morning to go check on her above ground pool…when she found a neighbor’s cat swimming in it!

The cat looked a bit scared because it was struggling to get out of the pool, so it quickly turned into a rescue mission for the woman and her boyfriend.

The water level was only about 2 feet, but due to the interior of the pool, the sides were so slippery that the cat could not get out of it.

The woman said that the cat “looked scared and was trying to get from one side to another, [but] it could only jump half the distance to get out.”

Using the big leaf net that keeps your pool clean of clutter, the couple was able to get the cat out of the pool. It took about 6 tries, but the cat made it out safely.
Accidental drowning of your furry friend is often unreported, especially in residential swimming pools. According to PetPlace, “up to 5,000 family pets perish in swimming pools each year.” It’s something to be aware of as we approach the summer months that you should keep an eye on your pet to make sure they stay safe, and if you can’t, then bring them inside.
