If you're a customer of NYSEG, you should be aware of a current phone scam that is making the rounds.

According to WKBW, customers of both NYSEG and RG&E are being targeted with a phone scam.

The scam artists are calling customers, impersonating NYSEG "consultants." NYSEG and RG&E urge customers to never give out their personal information over the phone like this and that they would never call you about an account that is on good terms.

The advice is if you're unsure who the caller is, ask for the last five digits of the account number...if they don't have that information, hang up and call the authorities.
