National Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Month
Meet Jael Moore. She is a Buffalo high school student and a member of the Omega Mentoring Program, Inc. who was diagnosed with Sickle Cell at three months old. As you may already know, September is designated as “National Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Month”.
Jael, like nearly 100,000 Americans are affected with this disease, which is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders that negatively impacts the lives of its carriers. It is the most common genetic disease in the United States and occurs in 1 out...of every 500 Black/African American births.
The Omega Mentoring Program, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that assists at-risk youth through mentoring, positive relationship building, educational support, community service and engagement and scholarship; seeks to start a Sickle Cell Awareness Day and “Walk for Sickle Cell Anemia” in Delaware Park on September 9, 2012, 9a - 1p. However, we need community partners like you to help make this event a success.
