We love to travel through the Catskill Mountains any time of the year.  But for autumn?  It just doesn't get any better.

There are many small, wonderful towns, villages, and hamlets throughout the Catskill Park and just outside of its boundaries.  Here we choose seven of them to consider.  Each is small, attractive, historic and has much to offer a weekend road warrior.

It is very hard to pick a favorite Catskill village.  So, no favorites from me.  But.....you just have to take a drive through Tannersville.  It is adorable.  Several years ago the community banded together and in a bid to attract more visitors to the village, they decided that they would all paint the buildings on Main Street a different color.  That's right, just like a rainbow.  So today as you drive through town you will see storefronts painted bright red, brilliant yellow, dark green, purple, orange, and any shade you can imagine.  This was kind of an "out there" concept and project.  But it worked!  Today, Tannersville is dubbed the "Painted Village in the Sky," and tourism is brisk in all four seasons.  And for that I will give Tannersville just a nudge toward my favorite on this list.

Obviously there are many more communities in the greater Catskill region, from Sullivan and Ulster counties in the south, to Delaware County in the north, so if your favorite did not make our list we encourage you to visit our Facebook page and give it a shout out.  We really do want to hear from you!

There are so many adorable little Catskill villages and hamlets, that to pick a favorite is a disservice to all of them. But, here is a sampler of 7 cute little communities that are always worth a visit. Some have a population of no more than 2,000, others a tiny, even hosting 250 or so residence. But people do come here, and for good reason. And some come from all the way down in New York City. The history is amazing, the events are popular, the skiing is great, antique hunting is among the best in the state, and the food is mouthwatering. So take a look at this sample album of Catskill treasures. And with so many to choose from, we know that we may have missed your favorite. So if you have a Catskill town or village you would like to recognize, visit our Facebook and give it a shout out!

10 Amazing Graves You Can Visit In the Buffalo, N.Y. Area

This gallery continues our posts about famous graves in various areas of Upstate New York. This time we look at 10 amazing final resting places you can visit in the Buffalo area. Many of these graves, not all, can be found in the historic Forest Lawn cemetery, one of the great cemeteries in New York State. There are thousands of graves to view there, hundreds of fantastic works of funeral architecture dating back to the early 1800s, grave markers representing virtually all of America's great wars, plus miles of walking paths, forested areas, ponds, and streams to enjoy.

On this list you will find the inventor of something we all love, and which TIME magazine called one of the 100 most important inventions of the 20th Century. You will also meet a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the woman who gave us a national holiday we all celebrate with parades, a man who bequeathed to New York State what would become the heart of one of the Empire State's Top 3 state parks, and an important Indian chief whose Seneca name translates to "he who keeps them awake."

All are easily accessible for public viewing.
